The 7th Hangeul Creative Industries and Ideas Award Contest
1. Eligibility : Anyone who is interested in developing products under the theme of Hangeul (individuals/teams/corporations)
2. Schedule
○ Application period: May 17, 2021 (Mon) - June 4, 2021 (Fri), 6:00:00 PM (no late submissions accepted)
○ Preliminary screening: scheduled on mid-June 2021
○ Secondary screening: scheduled on mid-July 2021
○ Announcement of winners: scheduled at the end of July 2021
○ Prototype production: scheduled on August - September 2021
○ Awards ceremony: scheduled on early October 2021

6. Entries
○ Prepare and submit a copy of the plan for each entry (including sets)
○ Number of entries allowed: 1 for each category
○ You may submit as a package, and each packaged product will be considered as one entry
e.g., ‘ㄱ’ emoticon set, consonant stamp set, and Hangeul learning notebook (가 - 하)
※ The number of entries allowed will be based on each individual, and each individual may submit one work for each category, regardless of individual, team, or corporation.
※ If an individual applies as both an individual and a team (corporation) for one category, the team (corporation) will hold the priority (the work submitted as an individual will be excluded from the screening), and if an individual submits two or more works, only the product submitted first will undergo screening.
※ If the same person applies for the same category as a team (corporation) for several times, only the product submitted first will be subject to screening (all works except for the first submitted work will be excluded from the screening).
※ If an applicant intentionally provides different personal information to make several submissions, he/she may be subject to disadvantages such as revocation of award.
7. Award details: A total of 10 entries will be selected and awarded (total prize money of KRW 50 million)

- Eligibility: Entries eliminated in the secondary screening / Judges: Visitors to the National Hangeul Museum and the National Museum of Korea
- Screening period: After secondary screening / Screening method: After installing a panel for submitted entries in the museum, one favored entry will be selected
- Miscellaneous: Souvenirs will be given to all the voters
* Winners are not allowed to take duplicate awards (10 entries in total)
* If an entry can win multiple prizes in two categories, it will be determined according to priority (① Prize, ② Prize money)
* Depending on the level of the entry and the competition rate, the winners may not be selected or the number of winners in each category may be modified
* The winner are required to bear any tax and utility charges arising from the prize money
* Payment to winners of foreign nationals will be made after all Korean accounting procedures are completed (the exchange rate on the day of the winners announcement will apply)
* Legal relations in connection with the above contest will be construed and governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea
8. Standards for screening
○ Creativity: Creative interpretation and originality of idea of Hangeul
○ Marketability: Possibility of spreading the value of Hangeul culture and producing and utilizing goods, products, etc.
○ Completeness: Level of completeness when shaped and manufactured as a prototype
○ Trend: Level of conformity to the purpose of the contest, and degree of reflection of the times
○ Far-reaching power: PR effect and proliferation of the excellence of Hangeul
9. Screening processes
○ Products using digital content: (Preliminary) document screening → (Secondary) screening of actual work
○ Digital content: (Preliminary) document screening → (Secondary) video screening
* A separate preparation period (about 2 weeks) will be given for the secondary screening after the document screening (preliminary)
10. Things to take note
○ Application for contest
- Applicants are required to design and present their entry work within the scope that does not damage the unique identity of Hangeul (e.g., destruction of Hangeul).
- Applicants will be allowed to make any modification after submission, but such modification will be barred after the deadline.
- All entries for the contest must be the result of pure creative activities, and the award and the prize money will be will be revoked and retrieved under any of the following circumstances:
· if it is confirmed that the entry has already been publicly announced through a contest, publication, or by any other means;
· if the entry has been in sale in Korea or overseas;
· if the entry has won in another contest or any other similar program in Korea or overseas; or
· if it is confirmed that the entry has infringed upon intellectual property rights or copied other work by stealing the idea of others.
○ Copyright reserved
- The copyright of the submitted entries will be reserved to the applicant pursuant to the Copyright Act.
If there are a number of copyright holders such as creators affiliated to a corporation and joint creators, it is mandatory for each applicant to submit a notarized document clearly specifying the legal relations concerning the copyright as well as the representative.
- Applicants will assume full responsibility for any dispute that may arise from the copyright of their submissions.
- If necessary, the host and the organizer may hold the priority to transfer intellectual property rights or obtain a license on the premise of reasonable compensation for the winning entry, and in this case, whether to transfer, scope of transfer, and compensation therefor will be determined by a separate consultation with the winner (copyright holder).
○ Receipt of prize money
- A winner must provide all documents required by the Cultural Foundation of National Museum of Korea to receive prize money. If he/she fails to submit the documents within one (1) month of request, he/she will be barred from receiving prize money.
- If there are multiple copyright holders, the full amount will be paid to the person listed as the representative. However, if the representative is unable to receive prize money, it may be paid in equal proportions to all co-creators listed in the documents submitted upon application.
○ Utilization of winning works
- Final prize winners must participate in the prototype production and provide cooperation to enhance the completeness of their works.
- The finished work (actual work) submitted by the winner must be submitted for use in future exhibitions and promotions. If the winner requests its return, the work will be returned, but the winner will remain responsible to pay any additional cost incurred.
- Part of the winning works will be exhibited in the World Congress of Korean Language 2021 (scheduled on October 2021) and more.
- If the host needs to transfer the copyright (all or part) of the winning work, or to use the winning work beyond the scope announced in the contest guidelines, the relevant matters will be settled by a separate agreement with the copyright holder.
- Winners must provide full cooperation if the products manufactured through the follow-up support are to be sold, by advertising the support provided for winners in the contest.
11. Follow-up support for winners
○ Winners are allowed to participate in the follow-up support programs such as promotion and commercialization offered by the host, organizer, and sponsors after the award.
